About Oliphant
Founding (2012)
Oliphant was founded in 2012 by musician Sherif El Maghraby.
At the time, Sherif wanted to distribute his band’s own music but did not have any financial resources to afford large-scale distribution, marketing or artwork.
Sherif fostered a partnership with Believe Digital which allowed him to distribute his band’s music, independent of any label or legal bindings, and at no cost.
The name “Oliphant” came much later.
Development (2016 – 2022)
Over time, Sherif developed new skills that would eventually allow him to be completely independent of any service provider, be it for artwork, recording, mixing, or mastering.
Artistic and creative independence was always the objective, and with every passing year, Sherif got closer and closer to being completely self-sufficient.
Deployment (2023)
After a few years of self-production, Sherif has the idea to expand his network and capacities to emerging artists who struggle the way he used to ten years prior.
This new project named “Oliphant” would allow emerging artists to spend more time making music, the way he wanted when he first started.
The Name “Oliphant”
The name Oliphant is an older form of the word “elephant”. The choice has many meanings. Sherif’s first child was born in 2022. During the pregnancy, his wife and him consistently had dreams of elephants.
Incidentally, elephants have a highly developed sense of hearing- which is adequate for the project of a music lover.
